Meet the Team: Dan Scott

This month we would like to introduce you to Dan Scott who is a Non-Executive Director here at AgPlus.

A BIT ABOUT DAN

Following a brief career in the British army and MBA in Cape Town Dan worked for a small healthcare start up between South Africa and UK, this transitioned into medical equipment logistics in the Middle East. He has been involved in a range of “colourful” small businesses ever since. Dan is currently operations director at a commercial property and SME lending business in London.

COMPANY ROLE

Dan has been a Non-executive Director of AgPlus since 2015. Dan’s experience with small growing businesses means he has a good understanding of the generic challenges AgPlus faces and is likely to face in the future. One of our non-scientific Executives he adds alternative skills and understands the risks attached to operational and cashflow decisions and adds a good balance to the board in this regard.

STARTING WITH AG+

I had been interested by commercial university spin-outs for some time and AgPlus was particularly exciting as it had been spun out of a platinum institution in NPL, it had exciting technology and a scientific and management team in place. The owner (Serco) was also keen to refocus on their core activities which led to a buying opportunity.

BEST PART OF THE JOB

The rollercoaster ride of a small business. Highs that come when the team make a hard-fought breakthrough, mixed with the occasional lows that come with delays or a less successful phase of development. I believe passionately in AgPlus. We have a highly motivated team whose commitment to the business has been evidenced in the resilience and drive they have shown throughout the COVID period.

WORST PART OF THE JOB

The challenge of funding a small business is always difficult and can  lead to robust discussion amongst the board.

THE YEAR AHEAD

The company is ideally placed to benefit from the inevitable drive toward point of care testing in the months and years to come. AgPlus entering an exciting phase and I have every confidence it will achieve the success it deserves.
